FindLaw.com, a Thomson Reuters business, quickly became the world's leading provider of legal information after its launch in 1996. Each month, over 4,000,000 legal and business professionals, law students and consumers visit the site to use its vast library of resources. These include: comprehensive search utilities, case and code information, legal news, an online career center, and community-oriented tools, such as a secure document management utility, e-mail newsletters, and message boards.

Redesigning the top website in any category would be challenging enough. But making legal research fun and easy, in an environment that's warm and welcoming, would seem nearly impossible. When FindLaw approached Hot Studio, that was the challenge set before us: give FindLaw.com a fresh, approachable look that presented information in a clear, smart, easy-to-use way.

A Friendly, User-Centered Design

Hot Studio Senior Designer Holly Hagen updated the site's look with a warmer, more contemporary color palette, but without compromising FindLaw's image as a professional and trusted destination for researchers. And we designed user-friendly navigation modules and used subtle design details to make the site's hard-working pages easier to scan and digest. We also restructured the site so that a researcher accessing it from a search engine would discover FindLaw had a lot more to offer than whatever specific service the user was looking for. This was accomplished through more intuitive navigation and flexible content modules, which exposed the depth of FindLaw's offerings.

Information is Power

Users looking for legal advice are now greeted with an improved, highly-functional directory. They can filter their search results based on geography or areas of practice and are presented with an array of options that make finding legal advice painless.

  • User-generated information on firms
  • Firm profiles featuring interactive mapping, quick snapshots of the practice, recommendations and video profiles
  • A FindLaw Answers section which allows users to ask questions the FindLaw legal community can answer in real-time
  • Informational videos on relevant topics
  • A comprehensive knowledgebase library

Visit the new FindLaw.com and see how fun and easy legal research can be.
